Publisher’s Summary

A Wall Street Journal and National Best Seller!

The man who predicted the worst economic crisis in US history shows you how to survive it.

The current crisis is not like 2008 or even 1929. The New Depression that has emerged from the COVID pandemic is the worst economic crisis in US history. Most fired employees will remain redundant. Bankruptcies will be common, and banks will buckle under the weight of bad debts. Deflation, debt, and demography will wreck any chance of recovery, and social disorder will follow closely on the heels of market chaos. The happy talk from Wall Street and the White House is an illusion. The worst is yet to come.

But for knowledgeable investors, all hope is not lost.

In The New Great Depression, James Rickards, New York Times best-selling author of Aftermath and The New Case for Gold, pulls back the curtain to reveal the true risks to our financial system and what savvy investors can do to survive – even prosper – during a time of unrivaled turbulence. Drawing on historical case studies, monetary theory, and behind-the-scenes access to the halls of power, Rickards shines a clarifying light on the events taking place, so investors understand what’s really happening and what they can do about it.

A must-listen for any fans of Rickards and for investors everywhere who want to understand how to preserve their wealth during the worst economic crisis in US history.

This book has biggest of gold, but just like panning for gold you need to sift through a lot of silt and dirt.
The author speaks to us as listeners in an almost belittling attitude towards the pandemic. He selectively uses facts and information to push his very obvious pre planned narrative. A thorough use of the scientific method would allow for the author to take in both sides of the equation but he has neglected to do this.
Through this he tells us the listeners how lockdowns don’t work and have ruined the economy. Yet here in Australia, and abroad in other countries(ie New Zealand) that is no the case. We live our lives almost the same as it was pre-pandemic. His ramblings almost forgive the previous president’s in abilities to lead his country through the crisis and make very little mention of the fact the CDC were defunded, and plans put in place post the last coronavirus – were scrapped and actively pushed against the recommendations. A simple google search will show the US response was inadequate and the major cause of the damage to come, both locally in the US and abroad.
I struggled to finish the audiobook but felt compelled to see if there was some good in it, which there was, but the listener needs to sift through the ramblings to find this.

Some credibility but not a lot

The first chapter is very patriotic but the author had preconceived conclusions and scoured the internet very selectively for “evidence” supporting his view. His comments on finance sound more convincing but, in my view, credibility is undermined by the early part of the book.
