She’s jumped the shark
I’m surprised at how much I disliked this book, despite liking most of Louise Penny’s books. But I’m more surprised at how many people loved it. A supervillain in an absurdly convoluted plot, threats to many major characters, multiple characters buying into the bloody and violent plot, an identical replacement for Agent Nichole (sp?), and suddenly all is fine with the swish of sage smoke. It was too much for me.

Convoluted and Disappointing
I wait every year for Louise Penny’s newest Gamache mystery. This is the first dud of the bunch. A crazy quilt plot, too much description droning on and on, and worst of all, the lowest common denominator: sexual abuse of children combined with a serial killer. I came close to returning it, and all sticking with it has taught me is that this is my last Louise Penny 3 Pines purchase. Robert Bathurst, the reader, also seemed a bit off his game, with some characters voices being too similar to figure who was speaking. With all the great audiobooks to choose from, don’t waste your credit on this one!
