Short stories but nicely satisfying. I will go find the related novels. Very different from Murderbot Diaries but very enjoyable. The characters have quirks and non-Disney behaviors but are still very engaging. Excellent narrator, good at both genders. He used UK voices to distinguish ancient Mediterranean characters but I found it worked for me. Excellent characterization brought the characters to life without over acting.

The narrator sounds angry all the time, like he’s spitting out the stories – it’s awful, not at all the tone they were written in! I have all of these in print in the original Black Gate Magazines they were published in but was excited to see them compiled into one volume as an audiobook. I love the stories, and they’re must-reads for any fans of Ile-Rien. But I’ll never be listening to anything this guy narrates again!
